Governance

2009 General Assembly

Fun Celebrations

Servas Workings

How Servas is Led and Governed

Servas has about 350 key leaders. All but one (and one half-timer!) are volunteers. A very few specialists are contracted professionals for website server, legal and other work.

Servas International committees meet mostly by distance, around the world. If you become a member of a Servas International committee you will likely meet some time by telephone, conference call, or by SKYPE.

Committee work needs not only energy and focus on content, but also your diplomacy, team skills, respect and good communications.

Servas sets its general direction every three years at a General Assembly (GA).  The GA is Servas’s highest governing body. It sets and revises the Servas Statutes (you can find a copy, on line), the Budget, the list of elected officers, and arrangements for on-going development.

For example, before the next GA, Servas will recruit Working Groups to tackle areas of interest, and discuss them well in advance. At the GA, delegates from national member groups will consider recommendations to improve or accept this work.

You are welcome to help advance global peace one step at a time. Get involved by becoming a volunteer. Come share, learn and reflect!

Servas is still working on priorities set by the 2006 (extraordinary) GA. You will find background information on that GA when you click here

2009 General Assembly

The Servas International General Assembly will be held September 5, 2009 to Sepember 12, 2009 at Mare del Plata, Argentina (south of Buenos Aires).

Nominees for elected office should plan to stay a day longer, to attend first meetings of the new Servas International Committees. Organized pre- and post-conference touring will also be considered, if there is interest.

Essential “business” is the main purpose of the GA. Two dozen main "business" decisions of Servas – will be addressed. To ensure economy, travel support will be limited. Polling, Distant Voting and other means may also be used to collect inputs from delegated voters.
